These are pictures of our day hike up Picacho Peak in April of 2003. Picacho Peak is off of Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Tucson, about 70 miles south of Phoenix. It is also the site of where the most significant Civil War battle in Arizona took place nearby on April 15, 1862, when an advance detachment of Union forces from California attacked a Confederate scouting party. The battle lasted for 1 1/2 hours, and three Union soldiers were killed. Picacho Peak is also known for its awesome wildflowers. You can check out the Arizona State Park for more information on Picacho Peak. |
